It is with deep sadness that we mark the passing of John Ryan, one of the true greats of Clonmel Commercials.

Johnnie was a towering figure in our club’s proud history, winning five County Senior Championship medals, including a remarkable three-in-a-row in the 1960s, an achievement that cemented his place among the elite players of his era.

By all accounts, he was an outstanding footballer and competitor. The attached photograph, taken at the All Army Championships in the Showgrounds in the early 1950s, captures him in phenomenal condition, showing strength, speed and determination evident even in a single frame.

More than medals and victories, Johnnie will be remembered for the pride with which he represented his club and for the legacy he leaves behind in Clonmel Commercials.

On behalf of the entire club, we extend our sincere sympathies to the Ryan family, his friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
